Subscription to our newsletter

If you have subscribed to our newsletter, we shall use your email address and the personal data you have voluntarily provided to regularly send you our newsletter. The only information we require to send you our newsletter is your email address.

At the end of each newsletter is a link that you can use at any time to edit your subscription data or unsubscribe from the newsletter. You can also cancel your subscription by sending us corresponding notice of your cancellation using the contact details provided in the “Imprint” section of our website. If you sign up for our newsletter using an email address that has not already been registered for receipt of our newsletter, we shall send you a double opt-in email to confirm your subscription. Your subscription will not be activated until you confirm it by clicking on the link in this confirmation email. We use this procedure for legal reasons to ensure that the owner of the email address, who is the data subject in such cases, has requested the subscription themselves.

If you sign up to our newsletter, we shall save the date of your initial subscription. This is required as evidence in case of potential misuse of the email address used to sign up for the newsletter.

Our newsletters are personalised so we can see whether individual recipients have opened them or clicked on any of the articles they contain. The personal data collected during this process is saved and analysed to allow us to optimise our service and tailor the content of future newsletters to better suit our subscribers’ interests.

Use of cookies

This website uses “cookies”. Cookies are small text files that are sent to your browser by our web server and saved on your computer’s hard drive. No personal data is saved during this process. Instead, you will be assigned a personalised pseudonym. This information is used for a variety of purposes, including allowing us to recognise you when you are navigating our website and making said navigation easier for you.

You can change your browser’s settings to ensure that you receive a notification whenever cookies are set on your device. This will provide you with transparency regarding the use of cookies during your online activities. Alternatively, you can also view this website without using cookies. You can do this by adjusting the settings in your browser accordingly before loading the website. Please note that, if you choose to do this, certain functions of our website may become partially or entirely unavailable to you.

Our presence on social media

We use the social networks listed below to allow you to find out more about us and our services and to contact us using “fan pages” (on the likes of Facebook or Instagram), accounts or channels.

The following section provides information on what data concerning you either we or the social network/social media service in question process(es) when you access and use the website in question.

What data concerning you do we process?

If and insofar as you contact us using the social network in question, we shall usually process the username under which you contact us, and may also save other data you provide where doing so is necessary to process/respond to your enquiry.

The legal basis for processing this data is the first sentence of Art. 6 (1) (f) of the GDPR (pursuit of our legitimate interests).

The operators of the social media platforms our pages are hosted on may also provide us with automatically generated statistics concerning our accounts. In particular, these statistics contain the following data:

- The number of times our page has been accessed
- Information on use of the “Like” button
- Information on page activity and post interaction, reach
- Information on video views
- Information on the percentages of men and women among visitors to our social media page

However, these statistics are provided solely in aggregated form and do not contain any personal data. As such, we cannot use the data included in these statistics to identify you.

What data concerning you do the social networks/platform operators process?

You do not need to be a member of the social network in question to view our social media pages. Likewise, you do not need to have a user account for the social network in question.

In addition to the data of (logged-in) members of the network in question, the platform operators also collect and process data on visitors to their respective social media websites who do not have user accounts and are not logged in during their visits. This may include data such as technical data, which is required for you to be able to view the website. In addition to this, however, the platform operators may also use cookies and similar technologies. We do not have any control over such activity, however.

Please refer to the privacy policies of the social networks in question for details regarding what personal data concerning you each of the social media platforms we use process. Where we have included provider-specific information in the following sections of this privacy policy, you will find links to the respective platform operator’s privacy policy in the corresponding section.

If you wish to use the functions provided on the social media website in question (e.g. the Comment function, share content, Like button, Messenger function, etc.), you shall only be able to do so if you have signed up to the social network in question and provided it with your personal data.

We do not have any control over how or to what extent the social networks we use process your data when you use their websites.

As far as we know, the social networks will process your data in particular for the purpose of analysing user behaviour using cookies and similar technologies so that they can use the results of said analyses to show you interest-based advertising both within and outside of the social network in question. In this context, we cannot rule out the possibility of the social networks saving your data outside the EU/EEA and disclosing it to third parties (e.g. foreign authorities and other public bodies).

Please refer to the social networks’ privacy policies and cookie policies for information on the exact scope and purposes of the social networks’ processing of your personal data, the storage period, erasure and cookie policies and policies on the use of similar technologies when you sign up to and use the social networks in question. These documents contain information on your rights and your options regarding objecting and withdrawing consent, among other things.

Our Instagram page

You can use the following link to access our Instagram page. In accordance with Art. 26 of the GDPR, we are a joint controller for certain functions on this page (see below) together with Meta Platforms Ireland Limited (the service provider), which is based in Dublin (Ireland):

https://www.instagram.com/vauthsagel/

Meta Platforms Ireland Limited is a subsidiary of Meta Platforms, Inc. (formerly known as “Facebook, Inc.”), which is based in Menlo Park, California, USA (hereinafter referred to as “Meta Platforms”).

If and insofar as you visit our Instagram page (see above), Meta Platforms shall collect your IP address along with other information. This information will be saved on your PC by Meta Platforms in the form of cookies to provide us, the operator of the Instagram page in question, with statistical information on the use of our Instagram page.

Meta Platforms provides more detailed information on its data processing operations in this context at the following link: https://en-gb.facebook.com/help/pages/insights.

In our role as a joint controller together with Meta Platforms in accordance with Art. 26 of the GDPR, we will analyse how you use our Instagram page (Page Insights function). Meta Platforms provides the legally required information on data processing in the context of its Page Insights function in accordance with the GDPR at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/privacy/explanation.

Meta Platforms also provides the relevant contents of the agreement concluded between Meta Platforms and ourselves with regard to the processing of this data as joint controllers in accordance with Art. 26 of the GDPR at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/legal/terms/page_controller_addendum.

Meta Platforms has agreed to act as the primary controller in accordance with the GDPR for the processing of Insights data, and to comply with all the duties arising from the GDPR with regard to the processing of Insights data. This particularly applies to Arts. 12 and 13, 15 to 22 and 32 to 34 of the GDPR.

The statistical information passed on to us does not provide us with any (further) personal data. As such, we cannot identify you using this data. We use the statistical data for the sole purpose of developing a better understanding of our users’ interests so we can improve our online presence and ensure the quality of our online services.

If and insofar as we collect your personal data using our Instagram page (e.g. your name, your nickname, the content of messages you have sent to us, the content of your comments, and the information you have made available on your “public” profile), we shall use this information exclusively for the purpose of communicating and interacting with you.

Generally speaking, we will process your personal data for the purpose of communication and interaction based on our legitimate interest in accordance with Art. 6 (1) (f) of the GDPR. Our legitimate interest consists of using the information and communication services provided on our Instagram page in the pursuit of our business goals.

If and insofar as we carry out any data processing in conjunction with operating our Instagram page that is subject to your consent (e.g. taking part in competitions and prize draws, sending newsletters, etc.), we shall obtain said consent from you separately. In such cases, your personal data will be processed based on Art. 6 (1) (a) of the GDPR in conjunction with Art. 7 of the GDPR.

If and insofar as the social network Instagram or the service provider Meta Platforms collects your data that is subject to your consent for their own purposes (e.g. analysing user behaviour), this shall also take place based on Art. 6 (1) (a) of the GDPR in conjunction with Art. 7 of the GDPR. In such cases, the social network will obtain the necessary consent from you itself.

Since we and Meta Platforms are joint controllers with regard to the processing of your personal data on our Instagram page, you can exercise your rights as a data subject both through us and directly through Meta Platforms.

Since Meta Platforms is the service provider and acts as the controller for the majority of the data processing operations that take place on our social media page, our ability to access your data is extremely limited. In accordance with the network’s terms and conditions of use, only the service provider has full access to your data. For this reason, the provider of the social network will usually be the only entity that can take and implement measures to fulfil your rights as a data subject (e.g. right of access, right to erasure, right to object, etc.). As such, the most effective way for you to exercise the corresponding rights is to contact the network provider directly.

Please note that Meta Platforms also processes personal data in the USA.

LinkedIn Insight Tag

We use the LinkedIn Insight Tag tool, which is provided and operated by LinkedIn Ireland Unlimited Company, on our website.

LinkedIn Ireland Unlimited Company’s business address is: Wilton Place, Dublin 2, Ireland.

For more information on LinkedIn, please click on the following link:

https://www.linkedin.com/legal/impressum

The LinkedIn Insight Tag tool is used to analyse and measure the success of any ads placed on the social network LinkedIn’s online platform.

If and insofar as we place ads for our products and services on LinkedIn, we want to ensure that they are only shown to people who are actually interested in our products and services. The LinkedIn Insight Tag tool enables us to better tailor our advertising measures to our potential customers’ wishes and interests. This means that LinkedIn users who have consented to the use of personalised advertising will be shown ads that match their interests. Additionally, LinkedIn also uses the data collected in the context of use of the LinkedIn Insight Tag tool for its own analytics purposes and for the placement of its own ads.

To ensure that our ads are only shown to interested individuals, we have implemented the code that enables the LinkedIn Insight Tag tool to run on our own website, which you are visiting right now.

If you perform an action on our site (e.g. by clicking on content that interests you), this will activate the LinkedIn Insight Tag and your activities on our website will be saved in one or more cookies. Cookies are small text files that are sent to your browser and saved on your device’s storage. These cookies enable LinkedIn to compare your user data (e.g. URL, referrer URL, IP address, device properties, browser properties (user agent) and time stamp) with the data of your LinkedIn account, if you have one.

The data collected by LinkedIn is anonymous to us as a LinkedIn Insight Tag user and we are unable to view it. LinkedIn only uses this data in the context of ad placement. How your data is processed in this context depends on whether you have a LinkedIn user account and are logged into it in your browser during your browsing session, or do not have a LinkedIn user account at all.

If you do have a LinkedIn user account and are logged into it during your browsing session, LinkedIn shall automatically assign your data to your LinkedIn user account during your visit to our site.

Both LinkedIn members and non-members can adjust their ad settings using the following link:

These Page Insights will not disclose to us any personal data concerning you, as they only contain the aggregated content. Although we have no control over the nature and scope of LinkedIn’s processing of your personal data, this processing is carried out under joint controllership in accordance with Art. 26 of the GDPR. This processing serves our legitimate interest in obtaining information regarding activities on our LinkedIn company page in accordance with Art. 6 (1) (f) of the GDPR. To this end, LinkedIn provides an agreement on our processing activities as a joint controller that includes details of the division of the legal data protection duties between ourselves and LinkedIn. Please note that LinkedIn also processes personal data in the USA or other third countries.

Use of Vimeo videos

We use videos stored on Vimeo (an online video portal available at https://vimeo.com) on our website.

The online video portal Vimeo is provided by the USA-based company Vimeo, Inc., (hereinafter referred to as “Vimeo”). Vimeo, Inc.’s business address is: 555 West 18th Street, New York, NY 10011, USA.

To facilitate use of the videos, we embed a video that has an external Vimeo video player integrated into it on our site. When a user clicks on the video, it plays directly on our page.

When this technology is used, personal data is transferred to Vimeo as described below.

The videos are integrated into our website such that no personal data is transferred to Vimeo, Inc. unless you have consented to use of this service.

If you access the video on Vimeo’s video portal, Vimeo, Inc. shall process your personal data (e.g. your IP address, browser type, operating system, other device information) in accordance with its own privacy policy, which can be viewed at the following address: https://vimeo.com/privacy.

If you view the videos embedded on our site, Vimeo (the service provider) shall use cookies to make ads more appealing for users and more valuable for publishers and advertisers. Cookies are usually used to select user-relevant ads, improve reporting of campaign results, or avoid users being repeatedly shown the same ads.

Vimeo can also collect data in this way from visitors to this website who are not registered with or logged into Vimeo. Vimeo usually uses and processes the user data for market research and advertising purposes, as stated above. For example, information on user behaviour can be used to extrapolate the users’ interests and create user profiles. In turn, user profiles can be used to place ads that correspond to the user’s presumed interests both on and outside of Vimeo. For this purpose, cookies are usually saved on the user’s computer and used to store information on the user’s behaviour and interests.

Cookies are small text files that are sent to your browser and saved on your device’s storage. These cookies enable the Vimeo service to compare your user data (e.g. URL, referrer URL, IP address, device properties, browser properties (user agent) and time stamp) with the data of your Vimeo account, if you have one.

Data can also be saved in the user profiles independently of the device the user is using (this particularly applies when the user in question is a Vimeo member and logged into the Vimeo site).

The data collected by Vimeo is anonymous to us as a service user and we are unable to view it. Vimeo only uses this data in the context of the purposes stated in Vimeo’s privacy policy (e.g. to place ads). Examples of the information Vimeo makes available to us as users of its service include information on followers, reach and user demographics. These statistics do not allow us to draw any conclusions with regard to individual users. As such, any requests for information on your personal data must be addressed directly to Vimeo. The only information we are able to view is the user’s public information, which each Vimeo user defines themselves in their private account settings. Users who are logged into Vimeo can also actively hide likes or stop following our channel.

If you are a registered Vimeo member and are logged into the Vimeo site during your browsing session, Vimeo shall automatically assign your data to your user account during your visit to our site.

For more information on the account settings available to you on Vimeo, please click on the following link: https://help.vimeo.com/hc/en-us/articles/224980308-Private-Mode-for-your-account

In particular, if you do not have a Vimeo account, you can prevent cookies from being set on your device by adjusting your browser settings and configuring your browser to reject all cookies. However, doing so may prevent you from utilising the full functionality of both this and other websites.

If and insofar as Vimeo uses cookies in the context of use of Vimeo videos, the service provider shall list them in detail at the following link:

https://vimeo.com/cookie_policy

Users who are registered with and logged into Vimeo can use the video comment function to contact us publicly. This can be done by posting a public comment on our Vimeo company channel. Any personal contact between ourselves and a user is based on a voluntary decision on the part of the user in question, and always initiated by said user.

The legal basis for our use of the Vimeo service is your consent in accordance with Art. 6 (1) (a) of the GDPR.

If and insofar as Vimeo, Inc., the service provider, transfers the user activity data it has collected to the USA, the legal basis for such transfer shall likewise be Art. 49 (1) (a) of the GDPR in conjunction with Art. 6 (1) (a) of the GDPR.

If you would like to submit requests for information and exercise your rights as a data subject, please note that the most effective way of doing so is to address the same directly to Vimeo, Inc., as Vimeo, Inc. is the only entity that has access to the user data and is thus able to take direct measures and provide information.

To protect your privacy, we use the “anonymizeIP” function (“IP masking”) to anonymise the IP addresses that are transferred to Google. Privacy policy regarding the use of the Google Tag Manager tool

We use the Google Tag Manager tool, which is provided and operated by Google LLC, on our website.

Google LLC’s business address is: 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. For more information, please refer to Google LLC’s legal information at the following link: https://www.google.com/intl/de_de/+/policy/imprint.html

We use the Google Tag Manager service to incorporate a variety of website tags provided by Google into our website (e.g. web analytics products).

“Tag” is a programming term used to refer to sections of code that are used to track the activities of visitors to a website. Tags are used as labels that provide certain (supplementary) information on a data set. Depending on the type of activity being tracked and the function of the tag in question, there are several different types of tag that can be used. In particular, the main types are: counter tags, conversion tags, remarketing tags and container tags.

Counter tags can be used for purposes such as determining how many times a user has visited the website.

The use of conversion tags is particularly common when a website operator wants to find out how many sales, newsletter subscriptions, downloads and other events triggered by website visitors (known as “conversions”) have occurred.

The use of remarketing tags is particularly common as a means of identifying users who visit a website multiple times so that they can be approached and addressed in a more targeted manner.

Container tags are a simple means of centrally managing multiple different tags.

We use the Google Tag Manager tool based on our legitimate interest in accordance with Art. 6 (1) (f) of the GDPR, and doing so particularly allows us to make our marketing measures more affordable and effective.

In its role as a processor, Google Ireland Limited processes your personal data on our behalf. To this end, we have entered into a processing agreement with Google in accordance with Art. 28 of the GDPR. In its role as our processor, Google is entitled to employ subcontractors. A list of the approved subcontractors is available here: https://privacy.google.com/businesses/subprocessors/. In addition to Google LLC, which is based in the USA, US authorities may also be able to access the data that Google has saved.

If and insofar as data is processed in the context of use of Google Tag Manager, Google shall list said data processing operations in detail at the following link:

https://support.google.com/tagmanager/answer/9323295.

Google only processes the IP addresses of visitors to the website. This is necessary to run Google Tag Manager. The IP address is stored for 14 days to maintain the service and facilitate troubleshooting.

According to information provided by Google, Google Tag Manager can be used to collect aggregated data on tag triggering to monitor system stability and performance. This data does not contain any IP addresses or other user-specific markers that can be used to identify a particular person. Google Tag Manager does not collect, save or share any information on the visitors to the website in question. This also applies to the URLs of sites visited.
